Winterfell on fire in Game of Thrones 8, who’s to be blamed?

The second month of 2018 has brought in some not-so-good news. For die-hard Game of Thrones fans, we though we knew when ‘winter is coming’ in 2019 (you obviously get the reference). But alas, Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, has refuted media claims citing April 2019 as the release date for the last season of the epic fantasy series.

Now a new video posted by a fan shows Winterfell up in flames. Winterfell is the seat of the ruler of the North and the ancestral home of House Stark. In the last season, four Starks were residing in Winterfell – Arya, Sansa, Bran and Jon Snow. Towards the end of the seasons, Jon was in Dragonstone to speak to Daenerys Targaryen about the impending threat called Night Walkers. And later went to King’s Landing along with Daenerys to prove the existence of the undead army to Cersei Lannister.

The eight second video was taken from outside the Winterfell set in Northern Ireland. But why exactly was the set put to flames, when GOT is known for its use of CGI (Computer-generated imagery).

There are many theories to prove why the set was lit. Maybe, given Winterfell’s proximity to The Wall – which was breached by the Night Walkers in the climax scene of the last season – the Undead Army might have captured the Starks’ ancestral home and Daenerys orders one of her two dragons to burn the Night Walkers. Some are also attributing this to Cersei, who despite nodding to an allegiance with Jon and Daenerys to first finish off the Walkers is planning to finish all her enemies in one stroke.
