The streaming platforms have seen some of the most interesting concepts in the past few years. While foreign web series have weaved intense storylines and incredible characters, Indian web series have sprung up great characters as well. With the industry waking up to the streaming platforms, big name actors have lent their names to the cast of these web series. We list the top actors who gave us pathbreaking characters
So, Radhika Apte becomes the first final girl for Indian horror on the streaming platforms. Apte effortlessly plays a character who’s flawed and weak in the beginning, but becomes the saviour, flaws intact in Ghoul.

It’s difficult to play such a character for anyone lesser than Radhika’s calibre, and Radhika creates a sympathetic yet formidable character in the Netflix mini series. And before that, Radhika Apte did a wonderful role in the Netflix Original web series Sacred Games. She played a gritty, infused in realism role as a government agent who’s helping a police officer fend off evil.
Shabana Azmi is known for her incredible performances in Bollywood films, and she brings that same trend to the world of streaming. Her performance in the short film Aunty ji was intense for two reasons – one that she was making her web debut and the other reason was the cause the film supported – that of acid attack victims.

Mirzapur is a benchmark web series that’s successfully changed the way audiences look at web series. It’s choc-a-bloc with actors playing some of the most memorable characters on screen and the one who stands out is Divyendu Sharma, who plays a dreaded don’s trigger happy so. Divyendu is known for his soft-romantic-drama roles in Bollywood. So, he’s a revelation to see him as an antagonist.

Also going against the grain was R Madhavan for Breathe, the Amazon Original that pitted him as a serial killer against a flawed police officer, played by Amit Sadh. The series, though not well received by critics, was an important decision made by Madhavan, who is generally known for his romantic hero, lead roles in films.

Yes, Saif Ali Khan has done action, romance and drama in a career that’s spanned decades – but in Sacred Games, he’s basically de-starred himself to play a gut-wrenching character who’s at the centre of all the action. It’s difficult to create a drama in a plot that doesn’t have the protagonist and antagonist face each other throughout the series, but Saif’s enthusiasm for the role makes it all a success.

Swaroop Sampat is one of the most popular tv faces from the television era. Swaroop played modern, quirky characters in the television series. This year, she was part of The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family, where she plays a weed-smoking mother-in-law. Granted, it’s a comedy one, but Swaroop does a good job of creating that character.
Shakti Kapoor has done some weird stuff in his career, but his role in Sidehero, the ErosNow web series should be the most quirky and interesting. Basically, he plays a fictional character who’s the mind-product of Kunal Roy Kapoor’s over-creative mind. And as that character, Shakti spews some incredible and realistic gyaan on not just Bollywood but also the business of performing. Sidehero is a great series and Shakti is just one of the many aspects that made the series so enjoyable.

Lust Stories made the list of path breaking streaming only films. In that Netflix Original Anthology, one of the most striking characters was Bhumi Pednekar, who played an engrossing, strong character – that of a maid servant who has a secret affair with the son of her employer. Bhumi succeeded in creating a character that remained with the audience long after the film stopped streaming, with her nuances and body language. We need more actresses like her.
