ALTBalaji and ZEE5 are  making a thing out of bringing small screen actors to streaming in their big budget web series. This time, they Rajeev Khandelwal and Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya to do the same in a new, uniquely named web series, Coldd Lassi aur Chicken Masala. Here’s our complete review of the new ALTBalaji & ZEE5 web series, Coldd Lassi aur Chicken Masala.

Divyanka Tripathi is a young, single mother and a chef, Nithya, at a premium restaurant, Indie Spice. The restaurant, quite the cliché, is in a financial quandary and is overtaken by a company. The company’s head has a boyfriend, Vikram (Khandelwal) who for all practical purposes had dumped Divyanka around eight years ago. Now, even as Divyanka stops herself from asking why Khandelwal did what he did, she cannot control emotions and all hell breaks loose.

What’s Wow : For Divyanka Tripathi fans, this is a treat. The actor hasn’t signed up many new projects, so this new series with a fresh new concept is good news. It’s same for Khandelwal fans, who’s a much more elusive actor than Diyvanka. Kudos to the show for beginning to normalise meats, fish and eggs as food. It’s 2019 and the credit titles of a web series has eggs in the visuals and there are several sequences of chicken pieces being deep fried – something we couldn’t have thought was possible in mainstream just a decade ago.

What’s Blah : Divyanka and Rajeev move about gamely through their made-for-tv roles, but an uninspired screenplay takes it all away. Film fans will have an ‘ahaa’ moment at least four times, seeing scenes that are inspired from other web series and films. The characters then, are a little underwritten, with Divyanka’s character having to do nothing other than throw fits and have meltdowns around her friends and of course, Vikram.

Parting Shot : Chicken Curry and Coldd Lassi is typical tv fare on streaming.
