ALTBalaji brings to us the second season of Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai, the web series starring Mona Singh, Ronit Roy, Apurva Agnihotri, and Gurdeep Kohli. The entire cast returns for the second season and there are some secondary cast members added to add a progression to the story. Characters and their stories evolve, as is wont to happen in what’s essentially a soap opera. Here’s our complete review of the series.
The series starts immediately after the incidents in the first season. Ananya has now come to Abu Dhabi with Harry Somani and her other friends for business after walking out on Rohit Mehra, her husband. Rohit has a change of heart and decides to support her in her profession and the two reunite in Qatar. Then, there are other things happening in Poonam’s, Rohit’s ex-wife too. She meets an interesting character who intrigues her, but she has yet to gather the guts to take the step ahead.
Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain Season 2 has several things working for it. The series is proof that Ronit Roy is a consummate actor and can pull off any role with elan. We saw him in Kaabil in a negative role, we saw him in Udaan playing a grey character, and we have him here showing a gamut of emotions, all in a couple of episodes.
On the other hand, Mona Singh plays her character well and gives Rohit’s histrionics able support. The scriptwriters have allowed to evolve her character and she takes full advantage of it. This is Mona and Rohit’s shining moment in the streaming world. If there’s one character who hasn’t yet evolved, it’s Poonam. However, the series is just three episodes old, so there’s chance Poonam has her moment as the episodes progress.
The chemistry between Ronit Roy and Mona Singh is sizzling and would be a fresh taste for the modern streaming audiences. Another thing that works for the series is that the writers have made a genuinely modern story, that doesn’t have the ‘sanskaari’ screenplays that are abound all over. Ekta Kapoor knows her audience, and so this show comes up trumps.
The screenplay writers also should be commended, as they succeed in bringing a comedy track that’s not slapstick and is not too intellectual. These are the scenes that bring out the vulnerability in the characters, making the audience connect with them more.
One common gripe we have with the ALTBalaji web series is the soundtrack. While the content is fresh and modern, the sound engineers still believe that the audience needs to be herded to scene to scene with a blaring, over the top soundtrack. That worked back in the seventies, with a typical soundtrack announcing a comedy track and works on mainstream tv, where the audience knows they must laugh at the unoriginal jokes because of that typical sound effect. That kind of soundtrack has no place in the world of streaming – ALTBalaji needs to understand that.
Kehne ko Humsafar Hain Season 2 goes to the next level because of the sizzling chemistry between Mona Singh and Rohit Roy.
