ALTBalaji is on a web series launching spree, keeping them in the game in a scenario where other OTT platforms like MXPlayer and ErosNow are launching web series with surprising consistency. Some of the genres that have worked fool-proof for the streaming platforms are horror and horrex. With Bollywood looking up to horror-comedy with films like Stree, it was only a matter of time that the web series creators would look at this genre. This is our complete review of the web series, Booo… Sabki Phategi.
A group of friends, Vishwas, Puchki, Ruchi, Veer, Khushi, Sartaj, Zara and Shalu decide to go on a trip to a resort owned by their friend, Manav. However, the resort turns out to be haunted. The friends now must find out who is haunting the resort and why, or else they won’t be able to leave the resort with their lives intact.
What’s Wow : Krushna Abhishek and Kiku Sharda are the choice of the cast. They have an organic charm that works for the scenes. Nicely done, they have a lot of screen time in the first half of the web series. The rest of the cast is well versed in the slapstick comedy genre, so the series doesn’t come across as a bad watch.
The script writers have gone the spoof way, so some of the most iconic concepts from horror films, but Hollywood and Bollywood end up spoofed – which comes out quite nicely at the end of it all. Then again, the script and the concept are novel enough to keep the audience interested until the very end.
What’s Blah : Booo… Sabki Phategi is a well-made web series. However, the seemingly fake resort is an eyesore. It’s not clear whether the resort is all CGI or there’s some new shooting technology that gives all the locations a ‘fake’ look.
This is a horror comedy, so nobody’s looking at any depth in the characters, but once again, the women characters are wasted in the series. It’d be good to see the women characters in separate scenes that show off their acting and comedy capabilities.
Parting Shot : Booo… Sabki Phategi is a light watch you’re been waiting for the weekend.
