Tigers is one of the few films that were released a while ago but didn’t get a wide release. The film originally released in 2014 in the festival circuit and now will be streaming on the ZEE5 Streaming network. This Danis Tanovic film stars Emraan Hashmi, Adil Hussein, Vinod Nagpal, Supriya Pathak, Geetanjali and others.

Tigers is based on a real incident that took place in Pakistan. Emraan plays a medical representative who becomes successful after selling a baby formula for a multinational. On his job, he is told that bribing and cajoling doctors is okay, if the sales increase. However, a couple of years into the new job, he realises that the baby formula is responsible for baby deaths. He now decides to become a whistle-blower – and the film is about what happens next.

Tigers is a hard hitting, emotional documentary. Director Danis Tanovic succeeds in creating a global story and knitting an emotional story about a family. Emraan Hashmi is fantastic as the every-man hero. The film proves Hashmi is versatile actor, something he’s shown in films like Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai and Shanghai. Adil Hussain, who will soon be seen in the Bollywood blockbuster 2.0 is steely strong as the face of the evil corporation.

Tigers is a scathing picture of several aspects – how upcoming countries think foreign products are better, how salesmen end up selling anything and everything to make a quick buck and how corruption runs rampant through the veins of a country.  The best part about Tigers is that it doesn’t delve on these problems and nor does it come up with solutions. It’s unclear what Hashmi’s character wants to achieve, until he literally types it up and sends to the erring company.

What’s Wow: That the film is finally out, after four years is wow. The story needs to be told and it’s a miracle that such a hard-hitting film has not been gained a wide release until close to half a decade.

What’s Blah: While the screenplay is tight throughout and tells the story, the ending seems a bit of an anti-climax. The chilling story requires more than an end card to show the complete story of a man’s small victory and the tale of survival. Audiences might think they are short changed, but that’s not because of the story, but because the makers decided to end it all in a rather damp manner.

Parting Shot: Tigers is a story that should be made compulsory viewing for everyone.
