ZEE5 brings to us the new web series, Bombers. The web series is about the struggle that a team goes through, not just to keep them adrift in the game of football but to salvage their home ground – which is at the risk of making way for a mall. The web series stars Varun Mitra, Aahana Kumra, Sapna Pabbi, Zakir Hussain, Ranveer Shorey and others. Here’s our complete review of the ZEE5 web series, Bombers.
The web series stars with a young journalist, Andy (Sapna Pabbi) wanting to make a documentary on Bombers, one of the oldest football teams in the city. She sets up meetings with everyone associated with the club, including the captain Badol (Varun Mitra), the team and ground owner Somu Da (Zakir Hussain) and the new coach, Ranvir Shorey. The story unfolds then, in a series of flashbacks, with all of them relating their experiences to the young, plucky journalist.
What’s Wow : Bombers has good performances. Ranveer Shorey, Varun Mitra, Zakir Husain and Anup Soni do justice to their characters. Even the supporting cast of Ahana Kumra and Sapna Pabbi does a good job in the unravelling of the story.
What’s Blah : However, Bombers falters because of two reasons. One, it could be much more than what it ended up as. And two, it doesn’t have enough football to gather the interests of the common crowd. Sport based content hasn’t had the best of chances with Indian audiences. The main problem here is that the series doesn’t want to tell the audiences anything about the main characters, apart from a pushy concept about one of the players being a homosexual. The other problem is that there’s very little football in this series that’s supposed to be about football. In fact, if you didn’t know anything about football, you’d still not know anything about the game, after watching his series.
Parting Shot : Bombers could be much more than what it is right now.
