Netflix is notoriously secretive about when their series or their Originals stream. There was buzz that The Witcher series will make its way on the Big N as an Original web series. So, it will take some time for news about when the series will hit the network, but there’s buzz that the show will hit the streaming network only in 2020. This will be the first franchise to make its way from beginning as a book in the early 90s and then become a video game, and then be turned into a web series on a major streaming service.

There’s no news about who will part of the cast, but Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will be show runner and executive producer. Hissrich recently revealed that the show will be shot in Eastern Europe.

The Witcher could make for excellent viewing, because of the medieval background and the rich, intense storyline. Of course, there’s a lot of gratuitous sex, that made it one of the most controversial games when it first launched. Gratuitous sex is the new normal on streaming platforms and has been instrumental in creating an early buzz for several web series, including Game of Thrones and Spartacus.

Witcher has found a great home on Netflix, a streaming service known to push billions into web series. After all, a series set in a medieval world will require a behemoth production budget – something that Netflix will be only too happy to give.
