YouTube is one of the oldest streaming platforms – and the best thing it does is provide a free platform for newer content creators to make their mark in the world of streaming. Cheers is a new channel that brings to us What’s Your Status, a new web series about men and their relationship stories – basically, the status of their current romantic life.
What’s Your Status has a formidable task – that of telling three seemingly unconnected stories in a linear manner. So, we have a college student who’s about to experience his first love, a guy who’s suddenly finding out that his love life was a farce, and a young married couple who are happy with themselves but sometimes, ambition of a superb relation rears its beautiful head.
The three directors, Prateek Prajosh, Amit Mishr and Madhur Agarwal, had a big task in front of them, and they have done justice to their craft. Let there be no doubt, telling unconnected stories on the screen is a difficult task even for mainstream cinema, but these three have succeeded in creating an interesting web series that engages the audience till the end.
What’s Your Status has some of the best performances we have seen, with the cream of the crop being Abhay Mahajan as the married man who is struggling to find time for his wife. The first two episodes are out, and Naveen Polishetty shines in whatever he’s given. We are sure Manjot Singh, who became a household name with the Fukrey franchise, will evolve his character with a smashing performance as the show progresses.
The female cast also gives great support creates great characters. Plabitha Borthakur, Anisha Victor and Megha Burman give great support and make this series one of the most watchable now.
What’s Wow: What’s Your Status has it all, great direction, a warm, emotion-filled story and a screenplay that knows how to get the best out of their star cast.
What’s Blah: Nothing.
Parting Shot: What’s Your Status is one of the better web series out there.
