Amazon Prime released the first episode of the prequel to the Baahubali franchise, Baahubali: The Lost Stories. The series is the brainchild of SS Rajamouli and made by Graphic Media and Arka Mediaworks. The series shows a young Baahubali and Bhallaladeva along with the characters like Sivagami, Katappa and others in the Baahubali universe.
What’s Wow: The first episode of the series is right in line with the epic storytelling of the film. The script and the graphics succeed in capturing the very essence of Indian culture. Especially impressive is the graphics style of the series. The artists have decided to keep the cartoon style as similar to the comics like Amar Chitra Katha, etc., that Indians have grown up with, thereby creating a nostalgia factor. The voice performances are pretty good too, and could be one of the best in an Indian animated series.
The first episode of the series is not just about great VFX and all that, though. It has a good storyline and a stunning climax that’ll keep the audience waiting for more.
What’s Blah: Though the graphics style is well suited for Indian audiences, it makes the action sequences a bit jarring. For a series that is going to be action-heavy, we wonder if the cartoon style will be able to follow through.
Parting Shot: For those interested in getting deeper into the Baahubali-verse, the series is a definite booster shot while waiting for the film to release.
