Accept it, having a witch and a warlock in the colourful comics world of the seventies as a bit awkward. So awkward that Sabrina the teenage witch had to finally have a girl rock band for the story to go ahead.

Now, Archie Comics has finally bitten the bullet – and we hope it’s not a silver one – and will be launching a dark, edgy web series based on the loved character. There were rumours of the series being dark and edgy – and the trailer has proven them all true. Looking at the trailer, the production budget for this series is pretty high, so we won’t be surprised if this becomes not just a popular web series but inspires pop culture. There’s buzz that Netflix has already ordered two seasons of the popular web series. Netflix is also home to Riverdale, the dark edgy take on the loved comics.

Currently, everything looks good for Netflix and Sabrina. If the audiences do lap it up, Netflix has another franchise. If it doesn’t, it will an experiment that could have breathed new life in an old pop culture icon.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stars Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina and Ross Lynrch as Harvey Kinkle. Michelle Gomez stars as Madam Satan. The series will break onto Netflix on October 28. Watch the trailer here:
