Amazon Prime becomes the first streaming platform to bring an unscripted show – Remix to Indian audiences. The concept of the show is unique – new generation singers and DJs will collaborate to remix retro and current Bollywood and regional language songs in a competition.
The competition features fusions of multiple genres of music from trap mixed with Bhangra, to future bass mixed with East Asian sounds, from blues to Desi beats and much more. The contestants explore different themes like ambient sounds, retro remixes, live instrumentation, sounds of India, global beats and more in each episode. Every performance is enhanced with unique acts, choreography, and cutting edge visual design, creating a never-seen-before musical extravaganza.
Over the course of ten sensational episodes, one team will be crowned the winner of The Remix and the new faces of Indian music walking away as The Remix title winner and INR 50 lakhs!
Contestant teams list:
The show was launched at the high-profile Playboy Club in town and the trio pulled no punches to talk about the current unscripted show situation in India. Along with them was Karan Tacker, who will be the host of the series. They were unanimous in saying:
“When it comes to TV, we must add an amount of drama, just for the TRPs. But here, on streaming, we aren’t bound with that. This is a clean, new show that concentrates on the competitive spirit and music”
Karan Tacker said, “In one of the series that I was a host, I spend almost one season flirting with Sunidhi because we had to add some drama and spice to the on-goings. With streaming, we have broken such shackles of creating drama.”
Speaking to the media, Nucleya said, “There is a lot of talent in India. We need at least 20 more such shows to bring all of them to the fore – but at least this is the beginning.”
Sunidhi said, “The way we have handled this show, you have never seen it on the Indian scene. We can promise you, the show won’t ravage the songs that are so well loved by an entire nation.”
Speaking specifically about the long-drawn introduction of contestants, they said, “It doesn’t make sense to put in so much about a person’s background in a contest. Especially when they are eliminated a few episodes later. Everyone faces problems and has reached the stage. Here, we are concentrating on the music – that’s it.”
And of course, the question of remixing old and loved songs cropped up. To this, Amit Trivedi said, “I can vouch that nobody likes to work on remixes of old songs. It is the producers and the labels that force the music fraternity to come up with such songs. As though why they need to do it, please ask the producers, not the musicians.”
The series launches on March 9 on Amazon Prime.
