The grand old dame of Indian programming, Doordarshan is going through a revamp. Many consider Doordarshan’s series to the Golden era of Indian programming. Now, even as the new logo for Doordarshan is being talked about, Prasar Bharati Chief Shashi Shekhar Vempati has announced that some of the best series from the 90s will be making a comeback on the streaming channels like Hotstar, Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Vempati also said that a separate social media team will be set up individually to promote these series on the social networks, like Facebook and Twitter. With this, series like Shah Rukh Khan’s Fauji, Vikram aur Vetaal, Malgudi Days, Buniyaad, Khandaan, Ramayan and Mahabharta may come to the streaming screens.
Streaming platforms have been more than welcoming of retro Indian programming and series that talk about Indian mythology. Netflix is already streaming Dharmashetra and the newer version of Ramayana.
