Rajeev Khandelwal is an incredible actor who’s given us some great films and tv series. Now, he is one of the main characters in the ALTBalaji web series Haq Se. We caught up with him to find out what exactly prodded him to join a web series – and more.
How did Haq Se happen?
Haq Se happened because of the script. When Ken Ghosh narrated the script to me, I knew that I had to be a part of this web series. I said yes, and the rest is on the screen for you to see.
How did you prepare for the role of a surgeon?
We did have this discussion while we were shooting for the series. We understood that being a surgeon was not a big part of the story, but we still wanted to keep it as realistic as possible. We did try to keep the various aspects related to the profession as real as possible. Of course, then there’s this thing about keeping in mind how a surgeon would move with the scalpel, and all that. We did keep a tab on all that.
Who is your favourite character from the series?
See, I can give you a quote saying that Jannat is my favorite character, but that can’t be true. Because when I read the script, I didn’t just read my role but everyone’s. So, when I read about everyone, I wanted to know what’s happening with this character and that character. So, as an actor who is associated with the project, I couldn’t have a favourite character in the series.
More and more mainstream actors are coming to the streaming platform. Why do you think that’s happening?
Because the streaming platform is a happening place to be in right now. See, entertainment keeps constantly evolving. In the nineties, TV hit it big. Some TV stars were bigger than film stars. Today, actors from the streaming field are becoming famous overnight. The amount of freedom that streaming is giving, any actor would like to be part of the streaming world.
Speaking of freedom, do you think there should be censorship of streaming media?
I don’t think so. Anything that the censors would want to censor, has been around for decades on the Internet. Everyone knows where to find it and it makes no sense to curb a content creator’s freedom in the name of censorship.
How open would you be to star in a short video format like an AIB or a TVF?
I would love to, it all depends on the script. If the script is good and the story that the creators are trying to tell clicks with me, I’d do it in an instant. As I said, the platform doesn’t matter much to me. What I need to see is the script.
And will we ever see Rajeev Khandelwal in a comedy or a feel-good movie?
I am open to it. I am open to experimenting with my characters and my performances. I should just get a good script out there.
What’s next for you?
Well, I am in talks to work in another web project and the discussions are on I cannot disclose the name as of now.
Rajeev Khandelwal is currently in Haq Se, the ALTBalaji webseries that’s available for streaming on ALTBalaji.com right now. The series also stars Surveen Chawla, Simone Singh, Parul Gulati and others.
