Facebook will live stream all the matches of La Liga the Spanish football league, as per a tie up with Sony Pictures Network. In total, all the 380 matches will be streamed on Facebook. SonyLIV will also stream 100 select matches like the key matches between FC Barcelona-Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid-Real Madrid, these matches will also be aired live on Sony Pictures Network’s sports channel.
SPN got the media rights to the league for $32 million for the period 2014-2018. And this is its first agreement to live broadcast the sporting event. It is the most watched events globally. The social media site has been looking to acquire the global media rights of T20 IPL tournament, which was eventually won by Star India for 16,347.50 crores.
Besides streaming the matches in India, Facebook will also live stream the event in seven more countries- which includes Asian countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and island nation Maldives.
Apart from the official La Giga Facebook page, the matches will be available on the Facebook pages of the individual clubs.
