Jackie Shroff was one of the first mainstream actors to make their foray into the world of digital entertainment with the short film Shunyata. The film, directed by Chintan Sarda, had Jackie portray a down and out assassin who takes up one last assassination.
The short film also had one of the last characters played by Lekh Tandon. You can read our review of the short film here. We also interviewed the director Chintan Sarda when the short film launched. The film was launched under the Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films platform.
The fiction film was selected to be in the top six among entries and was played at a theatre in Los Angeles in a ticketed event. An industry-based jury then selected the best film, and that was the Jackie Shroff starrer Shunyata – which translates into Nothingness in English. Mack Sennett Studios held the ceremony on March 3 and the award includes a cash prize of $1000.
This is certainly good news for the digital and streaming entertainment scenario in India. With more foreign outfits interested in stories about and from India, things are certainly looking up for Indian film makers.
