A new film company in Hollywood, Neon, is restarting a fad from the 70s and the 80s – playing short films in theaters before the feature film starts. Pixar started doing this with some of its films in India too.
Neon Films is a distributor that launched at the Sundance Film Festival in January. It has now announced a short films arm and plans to show one short film before each of its full length film.
It starts with showing Peter Huang’s ‘5 Films About Technology’ with ‘Colossal’, the film starring Anne Hathaway as a woman who controls a monster.
The concept of short films in theaters is not new. Earlier, in Hollywood, short films used to be regularly shown before the feature film started. Some theaters even billed this as a ‘double-feature’ ticket.
Well, anything that starts in Hollywood soon finds itself in Bollywood too. Is the day when a short film is shown before a Bollywood film in an Indian theater far away?
Time will tell.
