Religion and praying have been at the centre stage of several films. Now, short films and web series are taking the step ahead and talking about  religion, God and everything else that revolves around a being’s spiritual decisions.  Shubh Prarthna is the latest to join the bandwagon.

Shubh Prarthna is about a young man who leads a seemingly happy life. He is depicted to be quite religious and has a doting family, which includes his sister.  Even as he spends his life religiously, he experiences something that threatens to destroy his faith in God and religion. What happens next forms the rest of the story.

What’s WOW: This is a good concept and definitely one that’s ‘required discussion’ at this point of time. The world of streaming has always been bold with their concepts and films like Shubh Prarthna are a necessary, if small, step ahead.

What’s Blah: And that’s the reason we are dumbfounded by the way the film’s shot. Shubh Prarthna has a valid, interesting concept and a good storyline. So, we wonder what prompted the makers to shoot these films with less than stellar production values. What should have been a short film shot with professional resources looks like a film that’s shot via mobile. Mobile film-making is great and all that, but grainy videos are not.

And that’s the reason we can’t make up our mind about how nice the short film actually is. Because of the default camera angles and the quality of the print, it’s difficult to see if the actor has done justice to their role or not.

Parting Shot:  Shubh Prarthna could have been a much better product.
