Few short films tackle serious issues, so Within wins brownie points for being a sensitive and subtly handled short film about something that is commonplace all over the world – accidental, premature children deaths.
The short film tells the story of a couple who are expecting their first child. While the film introduces them as they are talking lovey dovey over the phone, things take a sad turn as the screenplay progresses.
What’s Wow: The concept is good, and the short film captures the audience’s imagination. Performances are at par with the other short films that are hitting the streaming platforms. Barring a few scenes where both the actors over-act, it’s a decent watch.
What’s Blah: The screenplay is confusing. There’s no answer why it ended up being so complicated – audiences might not understand what has happened until the end credits roll – and that’s what confusing. The concept doesn’t need a very big budget to be portrayed on screen, so we wonder why the screenplay ends up being so confusing.
Parting Shot: Within might not register with several in the audience because the screenplay is confusing.
