  • ZEE5 Short film Toothbrush talks about moving on.
  • Sameer Soni excels in his role.

Love, longing and moving on are themes that have inspired film makers. In Bollywood, film makers are now looking at the aspects of moving on, and that aspect is now coming to short films as well. One of the newest films doing that is the Sameer Soni starrer The Toothbrush, which is now streaming on ZEE5.

Sameer Soni and Kristine Zedek play a couple that are complicated. One is the introvert, homebody while the other is a outgoing, fun loving character. Breaking the cliche that opposites attract, the two have problems and those  seem to be unsolvable and unending. The two decide to part ways and what happens next forms the rest of the short film.

What’s wow: Moving on is still a new concept, and an important one. So, it is nice to see the new crop of directors making content in that space. Sameer Soni does a great job of showing the three stages of love, being in, being heartbroken  and finally, moving on. The script once again shows the concept that the little things that matter much could be just the thing that people are looking for, when the going is really tough.

What’s Blah: While the story and the concept is good, we would have liked to see a bit more of the actual life story. Director Tanya Deohans could have increased the time-frame a bit to tell a more intimate story.

Parting Shot: Toothbrush brings to the fore the aspect of moving on in an amazing manner.
