Celebrating the New Year fervor, SonyLIV has come up with a short film New Year Ek Nayi Shuruaat, celebrating the New Year’s Eve. The film centers around 7 different characters facing problem in their lives, and their stories are intertwined.

For the lovers of The Alchemist, this short film definitely reminds you of that. It talks of everyone playing a part in the story written by the universe, and problems being a stepping stone for the bigger picture of life.

The film starts with a personal secretary meeting with her boss on New Year’s Eve and telling how their intimate relationship helped them grow and survive the problems of life. As the secretary is moving on in life, her now ex-boss is impressed by her thoughts and passes on the wisdom words to a stranger he meets at the bar. This knowledge is passed on further, throughout the short film.

It ultimately reaches a family which is broken, but brought together by this universal plan story.

What’s WOW? The performances by the lead actors, especially Ninad Kamat is noteworthy.

What’s Blah? There’s nothing wrong with the short, except the advertisements that keep popping up in the middle of scenes. At 30 minutes, the film could have been made shorter.

Parting Shot: The short film is a feel-good endeavor, and watching it especially on a New Year’s Eve will definitely raise your spirits to give your best to the upcoming year.
