More and more mainstream actors are coming to the streaming world. Royal Stag Large Short Films is the platform that many actors are looking at to make their short film debut. Now, popular script writer Niranjan Iyer, Dino Morea, Vivaan Shah and Neena Kulkarni come together for Maa, a short film that tackles a very important concept – drug abuse among the urban elite.

A mother (Neena Kulkarni) makes a last-ditch effort to save her younger son who’s gone down the lane of drug abuse, even as her elder son (Dino Morea) tries to dissuade her. The only thing she trusts in is a new, experimental medical process. What happens next forms the rest of the story.

What’s WOW? Neena, Dino and Vivaan put up incredible performances to propel the story and make it much better than it already is. Neena is by far the soul of the short film, playing a character who’s headstrong and confident, and has a positive thrust towards life.

Debutant director Niranjan Iyengar brings to the fore the senselessness of drug abuse as well as the risk that a mother takes to save her son. This is one of those rare instances where the director allows the story to take its own path and weave a fascinating scenario.

Dino, as the elder son portrays a fascinating character of a man who’s not entirely convinced with what his mother decides to do. Vivaan has lesser screen time but his character is one that’ll leave the audiences with a lump in their throats.

What’s Blah? Nothing.

Parting Shot: Maa is a great endeavor to portray the perils of drug addiction.
