The relationship between an orphaned brother-sister duo has been explored many times. But weaving it with the tough choices an elder sister makes to give a respectable life to her brother is a double edged sword and Gullak (Piggy Bank) has done this nonchalantly.
Chinu, a young school-going boy, wants to utilize the piggy bank for his needs and pesters his sister to use it. But he is intelligent and does realise that his sister doesn’t earn enough money to pay for his constant needs. What he doesn’t know is that his sister has resorted to prostitution to provide him a better life. Can she keep this secret from Chinu?
What’s WOW? The casual approach of the subject of prostitution is commendable. The female lead, played by Ahmareen Anjum, has no qualms about accepting her profession, and is easy in front of her customers. She is only concerned about her little brother knowing the nitty-gritty of this profession at a young age. The story is very crisp.
What’s Blah? There’s hardly anything that turned us off in the short film.
