Shekhar Kapur, the man who has given us iconic films like Mr. India and Elizabeth, will soon be working on a streaming adaption of Amitav Ghosh’s Ibis trilogy. The trilogy details the 19th century opium wars between India, China and Britain. Endemol Shine Groups’ Artists Studio will produce it along with DoveTale media.
The historical consultant for this series will be Justin Pollard, who was earlier associate with Pirates of the Caribbean, The Vikings and The Tudors. Amitav Ghosh’s book stars with the Sea of Poppies and continues with River of the Smoke and ends at Flood of Fire.
Shekhar Kapur is credited for getting some of the greatest historical incidents on screen. After Mr. India, Shekhar brought to screen the story of the Bandit Queet, Phoolan Devi and Elizabeth.
Several books and comics are adapted for web series since a while. Earlier, Netflix started the trend by making web series on the Archies comic books series, named Riverdale. Netflix is also home to a webseris, The Chilling Adventureso of Sabrina, inspired from the Sabrina: The Teenage Witch. Later on, Red Chillies announced it is producing web series based on the book, Bard of Blood, which stars Emraan Hashmi as the protagonist.
