Reading Time: 1 minute

Going way beyond some of his Bollywood contemporaries, director Shekhar Kapur is all set to foray into the digital medium with a virtual reality film. The 12-minute film will be based on Gautam Buddha’s enlightenment; and the director has flown to USA for it.

Of exploring this new medium, the director said in a media interaction that it (medium) becomes imperative when he has the liberty to express. But the same can’t be said of directors like Vikram Bhatt and Ram Gopal Varma. Their web series aired, both stream on YouTube, where high on adult content.

For Suparn Verma of Aatma fame who recently directed VOOT’s Yo Ke Hua Bro and Karan Anshuman who directed Amazon Prime Video’s maiden original in India – Inside Edge; their web series too enjoyed the censor-free aspect of their respective streaming companies.

What Anurag Kashyap-Vikramaditya Motwane (Sacred Games), Kabir Khan (The Forgotten Army) brought to the medium is still to be seen. Here’s hoping that they up the ante of digital content.
