The autism spectrumed protagonist, Sam Gardner will be back on Netflix in the third season of Atypical, the web series that has won positive reviews. The web series is about Sam, who decides to begin dating and maybe get a life for himself – that decision changes the life of his mother and father, who are now coming to terms with their son deciding to go independent.
The series has won positive reviews, but the initial reviews were not so good – people criticized the fact that none of the cast in the original were autistic in real life – which did not bid well for the series in general.
By the end of the second season, Sam has met at least two women with whom he can have a deep connect, maybe romantic. Robia Rashid creates this, with Seth Rogen serving as executive producer and even directing some of the initial episodes. It stars Keir Gilchrist, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Amy Okuda, Michael Rapaport and others.
Atypical remains one of the few comedyies and college based web series that’s being retained. Earlier, Netflix has cancelled at least two web series that had a young cast and was set in either a college, school or a neighborhood. For example, Everything Sucks, which had a good, retro-meets-school vibe to it was cancelled all of a sudden.
