Ryan Murphy has signed up with Netflix for an exclusive contract, financials for which could go as high as $300 million. The five-year agreement is touted as the biggest deal in the TV and streaming industry, and just goes to show the amount of money that Netflix is ready to pay for content that they believe in.
Ryan’s departure is a double whammy, because Fox was planning to collaborate with Disney, this makes Ryan’s departure a loss to both the companies. Earlier, Shonda Rhimes, a Fox mainstay had made her journey to the Netflix bandwagon and never looked back. Netflix had earlier beaten other streaming platforms to snag the rights for Ryan’s streaming series, Ratched and The Politician.
The details of the deal are not yet out there, but sources say that Murphy, someone who is a staunch supporter of LGBTQ rights, was attracted to the idea of making series, films and documentaries, all under the same roof.
Murphy is just gearing to become busy. His original series Ratched and The Politician will stream soon on the Big N. He is also seeing the production of American Crime Story, American Horror Story and Feud on FX, along with the series Pose.
