Ali’s entered the world of entertainment with a 2008 Hollywood movie The Other End of the Line; appearing in one scene as a call center worker. The following year he made his debut as Joy Lobo in one of the highest grossing Hindi films of all time, 3 Idiots (2009) and followed it with some gripping performances, including Zafar, a struggling musician in Fukrey and Fukrey Returns, Vikram Bhatt’s horror title Khamoshiyan (2015), Bobby Jasoos alongside Vidya Balan, and also worked alongside Sanjay Dutt in 2019’s Prassthanam. In 2018, he won the hearts of viewers with his phenomenal performance as Guddu Pandit in Amazon Original Series Mirzapur.
Ali set foot in the West in 2015 with Furious 7 where he played a crucial role as a street wise mechanic in Abu Dhabi and only 2 years later Ali landed, what he describes as his favorite role till date, Abdul Karim, in the Oscar nominated film Victoria & Abdul (2017). Ali credits his friendship he developed with his co-star Judi Dench which made his performance more real especially while shooting her character’s tragic death scene.
