There’s a buzz that PayTM, India’s premier online payment option is toying with the idea of starting a streaming series. The reports suggest that the online payment platform is being pressurised by their investors, Alibaba and Softbank.
Earlier, Amazon got into streaming as a secondary business in India by launching Amazon Prime for its Indian market – giving streaming audiences such series like Inside Edge, Mirzapur and others. Currently, PayTM has an understanding with Yupp TV, which allows access to some of YuppTV’s channels to PayTM customers.
Earlier, telecommunication giants have had collaborations with streaming platforms. For example, Jio gives access to a lot of foreign and Indian programming for their customers. So does Vodafone, which allows access to Amazon Prime under the Vodafone Red plan. Airtel also provides a streaming platform access. Entertainment majors have also set up their production companies that will exclusively created streaming content. For example, Zee5 recently set up its production house and so did Hotstar. If PayTM comes into the fray, these will be more exciting times for streaming audiences.
