Radhika Apte may be gathering appraise for saying yes to Netflix Sacred Games where she is playing a RAW analyst, but she wasn’t the first choice to play Anjali Mathur. Malavika Mohanan, who has some interesting projects in the Malayalam film industry, was first asked to be part of Netflix’s first ever Indian web series.
Currently, the actress is being seen in Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds opposite Ishaan Khatter. Her argument for saying no to the web series was that she was looking forward to being an established film star and then venture into web series. A lot of Bollywood actors are getting onto the digital platform, of which Sacred Games is the best example.
The Netflix web series is based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 thriller novel by the same name. Besides Radhika, it stars Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The series will have its premiere on July 6.
Netflix’s first original series in India and will be made in Hindi and English. The book is set in Mumbai and revolves around corruption, politics and crime in the city.
TheDigitalHash.com has also reported that the series will be a four season affair each being of 8 episodes. Shot on location in India, this Hindi-English series will be produced in partnership with Phantom Films. The series’ shooting wrapped up on January 28 this year.
