Machines going live – that trope’s been around since the eighties. We saw it in the Terminator Series, 2001: A Space Odyssey and countless others. Now, Netflix brings to us Tau, a sci-fi film with horror connotations – the trailer promises some jump scares in what seems to be a machine-vs-us film, complete with a mad scientist who’s trying to control all that’s going on.
Though the concept isn’t new, it does have potential. House horror has been successful in the past few years, including films like Cloverfield and It. Also, the sci-fi aspect in the film could be interesting- as audiences have become more and more aware about technology and like concept sthat handle the subject in the correct manner.
The film stars Maika Monroe as the young woman who’s required to complete an experiment, Ed Skrein, Fiston Barek, Ivana Zivkovic, Sharon Clarke, Ian Virgo and others. Gar Oldman voices the machine that goes live.
