Netflix is planning to set up a production facility in India given the growing potential for consuming content. By 2020, India is expected to have 500 million smartphone users and 650 million internet users which means that Netflix is under the pressure of localising content to tap that demand.

Their CEO Reed Hatings visited India to get an idea of the audience’s taste and trending subjects to create episodes. He also met various participants of the industry and announced few tie ups like with Shah Rukh Khan owned Red Chillies Entertainment.

Netflix has kept an investment of Rs.500 crore for the original shows in India.

It is producing its first original series in the country in partnership with Anurag Kashyap’s Phantom Films which is an adaptation of Vikram Chandra’s book Sacred Games.
