Amazon Prime may have earned itself loyal fans in India through its cricket series Inside Edge. And now Netflix is also delving into the same space, albeit with an unscripted series. Netflix has commissioned an eight part web series on the Indian Premier League franchise the Mumbai Indians.
It will follows the team as it attempts to win the IPL for a record fourth time for the 2018 season – on and off the field as well. Led by Captain Rohit Sharma, the team has won three titles (2013, 2015 & 2017) and two Champions League titles (2011 & 2014) trophies.
Al Edgington, Joe LaBracio, Dawn Ostroff, Jeremy Finn, Jamie Stewart and James Maby serve as executive producers. The series is produced by Condé Nast Entertainment and will be available exclusively on Netflix. The series will be distributed across 190 countries around the world.
Besides this, Netflix’s first ever Indian web series Sacred Games is a much awaited venture, coming out on July 6. Netflix has also commissioned an adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s cricket-themed novel Selection Day and Again, a supernatural detective series written by Marisha Mukherjee.
The streaming giant also released an Indian Netflix Original, Love Per Square Foot which was widely appreciated.
