Netflix US has suffered a 10% drop in its ratings and none of its competitors can be blamed. The American citizens were witnessing a solar eclipse – which travelled from one coast to another – a phenomenon that last happened in 1918.
What is further interesting about this ratings drop news is how Netflix choose to make it public. In a series of tweets, Netflix US played the blame game with panache. In the past, Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix stated that revealed the numbers of any show will lead to every other Netflix show being benchmarked off that show.
For us, it seems that Netflix has a subtle message through this revelation – only a great phenomenon as a solar eclipse can take away Netflix fans away. Hope we got it right.
