The digital fans are waiting the streaming date for Sacred Games, which will mark the first Indian original by Netflix. The streaming giant will, reportedly release 4-5 series in the next 6 months, which will also include Selection Day and Again, which TheDigitalHash.com has already written about.
In a media interaction, Erik Barmack, VP-International Originals at Netflix, shared that the company is planning for the long-term in India. As per him, in the 4-5 years Indian audiences will consume 30-40 hours of content weekly. Taking cognizance of the increased investment in broadband infrastructure, Netflix is mulling setting up studio facilities in India for series production and development.
The Indian audiences are waking up to a gamut of Indian originals by streaming services. Amazon has already released three Indian originals – Inside Edge, Going Viral, and the recently released Laakhon Mein Ek. Including these titles, there are in all 10 Amazon originals announced.
Netflix has turned its eye towards other emerging markets as well. The streaming giant is also producing local content in Canada, Brazil, the Middle East, and most of it is in regional languages.
