Netflix brings to its audiences Walk. Ride. Rodeo. a Netflix Original based on the real-life story of Amberely Snyder, who went on to become the first American paralyzed barrel racer. The film promises to be very close to reality, with Amberly being a consultant on the project, as being the stunt double for the actor who played her on-screen, Spencer Locke. Amberly Snyder is a promising barrel racer – and she cannot think of anything else apart from racing and spending time on the field. Her life is torn apart when she breaks her spine in a freak accident. However, she decides to even the odds with sheer grit and goes on to become America’s only paralyzed barrel racer.
What’s Wow: It’s good that the inspirational story of Amberly Snyder is coming to the streaming audiences. OTT platforms are becoming a minefield of such content. Zee5 recently made The Sholay Girl, a docu-drama about India’s most popular stunt woman. Walk, Ride, Rodeo has enough emotional heft to have the audience sit through. After all, the real-life story of a young girl who overcomes physical disability to become what she becomes is in one word, inspirational.
What’s Blah: Walk, Ride, Rodeo is a well-made film, but the performances fall flat. All of it looks like it’s a Christmas film whose work in life is to make the family sit together and watch programming. The performances are flat because the screenplay doesn’t have much of a grit or intensity – it does a normal job of bringing the story out, but there’s no stand-out or memorable scenes.
Parting Shot: Walk, Ride, Rodeo is the kind of film you should watch if you are stuck indoors.
