Teen dramas, road films, crime dramas. All these sub-genres make for interesting viewing. What if someone goes ahead and makes a film that has all of these three? Well, someone just went ahead and made it as a Netflix original, The End of the F***ing World.
The End of the F***ing world tells the story of two misguided, flawed young individuals – James and Jessica – who strike a weird friendship because of an equally weird reason. James wants to kill Jessica for an ‘experience’ and Jessica thinks that James can be really her friend – or boyfriend, whichever catches her fancy.
The two go on a road trip and have an adventure of a lifetime, which, unfortunately becomes the only one that they will ever have.
What’s WOW? Alex Lawther and Jessica Barden paint a fascinating picture of two sociopaths who have nothing to lose, except each other. Lucy Tcherniak and Jonathan Entwistle handle the subject matter like veterans and make the audience sympathize and reflex-hate the characters at the same time. The story is one of the most intense, well-toned one in a web series and bring to fore the various issues that American kids face in their life. What also stands out is the handling of the two detectives investigating the case – DC Eunice Noon and Teri Donoghue – these two are the most different crime tackler characters you will see.
What’s Blah? Nothing.
