Baahubali is one of India’s biggest franchises and Netflix is now working on adding more content to this. Netflix has announced a two season origin web series for Baahubali, titled Baahubali: Before the Beginning. This is therefore the prequel to Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion. The first season is based on Ananth Neelkanthan’s book, The Rise of Sivagami and the series will talk about the rise of Sivagami to an unequalled queen. Both the series will be made by Arka Media Works and SS Rajamouli. Deva Katta and Praveen Sataru will be directing the series.
There’s no word about who will play the characters, but looking at the timelines, it is unlikely that either Amarendra or Bhallaladeva will be part of the story, at least not of the age that they were in the original films.
Baahubali becomes one of the first Bollywood films to see a streaming spin-off. It already has created an animation series that’s streaming on Amazon Prime. With this, Netflix completes his push of bringing home grown content to Indian and international audiences. It’s first Indian web series, Sacred Games was a runaway success and has paved the way for bigger, better content by the Big N.
