Nawazuddin Siddiqui becomes the next Indian actor to become part of an Amazon Prime series as he joins McMafia, a web series that’s based on the book McMafia: A Journey Through The Global Criminal Underworld. The series is about the English raised son of a Russian mafia, who’s exiled and tries to live out of the country. Though the book is pegged as a non-fiction, there’s no word about what, or who is the inspiration behind the book. Nawaz is Dilly Mahmood, an Indian business partner.
The series also stars James Norton. Nawaz has shot for the series in Mumbai and Croatia last year. Although, the series has been shot all around the world including London, Qatar, Prague, Cairo, Belgrade, Belize, Istanbul, Moscow and Tel Aviv. The series is not an Amazon Prime original in the truest sense of the term. This will be a BBC Television eight-part drama series that will stream on Amazon Prime too.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui has fast become one of the most exciting talents in Bollywood. He is also someone who’s successfully traversed from parallel cinema to mainstream with films like Raees. This is not the first time that Nawaz has performed in something that’s streaming. He made his streaming debut with the Jackky Bhagnani short film, Carbon.
Amazon Prime is catering more and more to the Indian audiences with either commissioning entire series based in India or buying the streaming rights of series that would cater to the Indian audiences. To begin with, Amazon Prime launched the first India-centric web series, Inside Edge, which had a host of mainstream actors in the cast, including Vivek Oberoi and Richa Chadha. That worked for Prime in spades and now Zoya Akhtar is shooting for Made in Heaven, a web series that will have Amazon Prime as its base. That web series is based in Delhi and shooting is underway.
