A sports documentary about Indian sports is finally making its way to streaming platforms. Conde Nast is bringing a documentary about the Mumbai Indians to Netflix, which will show audiences the ins and outs of the game, as well as the pressure that the teams are once the IPL season starts. The series, named Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians is an eight-part series that will stream on Netflix from March. 2019.
With this, it looks like Netflix is looking at long term sports documentaries, starting out with a microscopic view on Mumbai Indians. According to reports, the series will show the action both on and off the field and will start off with the 2018 IPL auction. The series is produced by Al Edrington, Joe LaBracio, Jeremy Finn, Jamie Stewart and James Maby.
This could be the heralding of sports content on Netflix. Hotstar already shows IPL and other major Indian cricket events on their streaming platform. Amazon Prime has several sports documentaries and sports content that’s available out of India. SonyLIV also streams sports, including WWE content like RAW and Smackdown.
