The streaming platforms are home to a diverse offering of films. From drama to horror, the woke streaming audience can find every kind of film. One such genre is films that are dripping with realism – and talk about a very real concept -whether it’s conflict or a solution. For example, the latest Ayushmann Khurana starrer, Article 15, has won critical and commercial acclaim. The film is based on the very real caste discrimination that exists even today in the hinterland. And Article 15 isn’t alone.  Here are the latest Hindi movies, some of them available on ZEE5, that make for thought-provoking and an interesting viewing:

Toilet, Ek Prem Katha

The urban audience still doesn’t really know one of the most important problems that the rural world experiences – open defecation. Apart from some Government issued public service announcements about open defecation, there’s little been said about in the mainstream media, apart from some latest Hindi movies. But that changed with the Akshay Kumar starrer, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. The film was commercially and critically successful and was the first Akshay Kumar starrer to break into the 300-crore league.

Parmanu

Chandrayaan 2 is a success, and before that, India went nuclear with the Pokhran born test explosions. Parmanu makes for an interesting watch, among the latest Hindi movies, as an entire generation knows about the Pokhran blasts only because of what’s been taught in the textbooks – and not the actual story behind the incident.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha

Body shaming and fat shaming is very much prevalent today, just not visible in the politically correct circles we move in, and the latest Hindi movies that we watch. Dum Laga Ke Haisha brought that out in a quirky, lighthearted but thought-provoking manner. This YRF film propelled Ayushmann Khurana and Bhumi Pednekar to stardom.

Kadvi Hawa

Sanjay Mishra is a legend waiting to get his true due. While he does some fun latest Hindi movies like Golmaal, he has begun going back to his experimental roots with films like Rakkosh and Kadvi Hawa. Kadwi Hawa is about the disappearing villages in Bundelkhand, because of natural causes. The searing film stars Ranveer Shorey and Tillotama Shome, along with Sanjai Mishra.

Sonchiriya

Sonchiriya launched in theatres during a crowded weekend, with some of the latest Hindi movies releasing. However, thanks to digital platforms, this Sushant Singh Rajput, Manoj Bajpai, Ranveer Shorey and Bhumi Pednekar film is now available for streaming. Sonchiriya is about the dreaded dacoit menace that’s still prevalent in some parts of the country.

Yours Truly

Yours Truly talks about a concept that’s rarely discussed – urban loneliness. Soni Razdan makes a tremendous one-time-only performance, along with similar performances from Aahana Kumra and Pankaj Tripathi. The film garnered much attention and was critically acclaimed.

Mulk :

Mulk is a landmark film, not just because of the concept but also because of the relevance of the subject. Terrorism is a blot on humanity, but when innocents are captured in the dragnet, there requires to be some corrective measures taken. This film, starring Taapsee Pannu, Manoj Pahwa, Neena Gupta and Rishi Kapoor among others, puts that into perspective.

Pink

The film that prompted many to speak out against sexual harassment, whether it’s in the workplace or outside, makes this list as well. A fiery performance by Taapsee Pannu made her an idol that we all can look up to.

These are the eight latest Hindi movies that are soaked in realism. Have some in your list, tell us in the comments section.
