Roads in the city have never been safe but according to a study by Kolkata Traffic Police last year, certain areas and stretches in particular are riskier for commuters. A senior officer of the Kolkata Police’s traffic department confirmed that the Kolkata Traffic Police has decided to prepare short films featuring celebrities of the city and show them at different places to create awareness among people on road safety. Celebrities from the state are also being urged to participate in the road safety week.
Tollywood bigwigs like Prosenjit Chatterjee, Koyel Mallick, Payel Sarkar and Abir Chatterjee attended the closing ceremony of the Road Safety Week organised by the Kolkata Traffic Police. The gathering including children from different schools were requested to be aware of the road safety norms and ask their close ones to follow road safety norms.
The same exercise will get a different format in short films now. Though names of the celebrities remain undisclosed, it is possible that shoot will begin soon if everything goes as planned by the department.
In that way, the Road Safety Week and the campaign through short films will be closely spaced for better impact. Metro stations will be one of the venues for the short films to screen/play. Under its project Jaaago, the Kolkata Traffic Police has also organised a short-film competition to create awareness about road accidents.
