Last year on the first of April popular TV actor Pratyusha Banerjee committed suicide (asphyxia) when she was barely twenty-three. A young girl from Jamshedpur who shot to fame with Balika Vadhu’s Anandi became a household name as she went on to act in popular dramas like Hum Hain Na, Sasural Simar Ka and participated in largely viewed reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Big Boss 7 and Power Couple.

It has been a year since the tragedy and friend and Kamya Panjabi as a tribute to the deceased actor has decided to release her last work, a short film on her first death anniversary.

Though the shooting couldn’t be completed owing to Pratyusha’s untimely death, a major portion was shot and quite uncannily bears resemblance to the actor’s real life cricis. In fact, as clarified by Kamya Panjabi, the name of Pratyusha’s on screen partner is also Rahul, at her own insistence.

“Though a work of fiction, it will seem quite similar to what Pratyusha must have gone through. She will be seen heartbroken, resorting to vices like drinking and smoking. As a narrator, I will interlink her reel and real lives, and question viewers on why people change in love and choose to remain silent sufferers. Pratyusha didn’t use glycerin while shooting the emotional scenes. I too was nursing a heartbreak at that time.” Says Kamya who said she felt helpless while watching the film and deeply regrets not being able to reach out to her at the hour of need.

Hum Kuchh Keh Na Sakey, shot just before a month and half before her demise, might take Pratyusha’s fans closer to her state of mind and agony before she hanged herself in her Oshiwara home last year. Here’s hoping this short provides a closure to the friends and family of the young and beautiful actress.
