Kalki Koechlin’s doing some great stuff, both in features as well as the streaming screens. Her music video slash short film ‘Noise’ will start streaming tomorrow and TheDigitalHash was present at the special screening held at the Culture Machine office in the Mumbai suburbs.
Kalki made it a point to arrive on time, something that according to us is a mark of a professional. The media was introduced to the music video by the Heads of Culture Machine. Kalki spoke at length about the short film and gave details about what inspired her to create this.
As the media nibbled scrumptious cookies and washed them down with coffee, chai or some well meaning Diet Coke, the film screened – and we knew we were part of an important step in the evolution of short films as it played on the big wall of the Culture Machine recording studio.
It’s heartening to see the new, younger companies walking the tightrope between ensuring that celebs as well as the media is taken care of. As the late afternoon screening wound down, we were pleasantly surprised to see sandwiches being passed around for the media, we are sure some of the veteran reporters must have remembered the hours of hunger pangs they addled through when they covered some of the ‘big films’.
Kalki was in her element and put the journos at ease. It’s interesting to see that the so called mainstream channels still don’t send their journos to cover the streaming category. But that’s okay, those who want to stay current with the streaming genre always have TheDigitalHash.
It is events like these that make people speak about why covering the streaming space makes better sense. They start on time, every media house gets some ‘us’ time with the celeb and the journos weren’t left disgruntled.
The vibe was young, the vibe was informed decisions – people who had a thought and had gone through great lengths to achieve them. The next time someone tells you, ‘Short Films ka future kya hai’, ask for a +1 invite and drag them along.
