Swastik Productions, the name that’s behind some of the most iconic historical dramas is now making ‘Porus’ for Sony Entertainment Television.  In a first, the production company will retain the digital rights of the series and will be free to sub-licence the show to the streaming screens, 3 hours after the original airing on Sony TV.  Swastik Productions has earlier given us mega-budget series like ‘Mahabharat’, ‘Suryaputra Karna’ and ‘Kamphal Data Shani’.

This is an industry first, with most of the digital avatars of domestic players like Star and Sony plugging their apps with the digital versions of their popular TV shows. The apps also have digital only content, like Hotstar’s ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2’ and SonyLIV’s ‘Kacho Papad, Paako Papad’ too. However, this is the first time that a series that will be broadcast has the option to sell it’s digital broadcasting rights to someone else.

Everything about ‘Porus’ looks interesting. With a whopping 260 episodes already sanctioned, the buzz is that the budget for each episode is around a crore. Basically, at 260 crores, the budget is already close to 6 big budget Bollywood films.
