India’s internet speed to grow to 6 Mbps in 2021: Cisco

With more digital transformation and enhancements, the future of Digital India seems brighter. As per Cisco’s ‘Visual Networking Index (VNI) Complete Forecast’, the average fixed broadband speed in India will grow 2.8-fold from 2016 to 2021, from 6.6 Mbps to 18.2 Mbps. On the other hand, the average mobile connection speed will grow 5-fold from 2016 to 2021, reaching 6 Mbps in 2021.

India’s Internet video traffic will grow 5-fold from 2016 to 2021, a compound annual growth rate of 40%. Video will be 75% of India’s mobile data traffic in 2021, compared to 49% at the end of 2016.

Another interesting fact the report highlights is that in India, 84 billion minutes (159,201 years) of video content will cross the Internet each month in 2021. This roughly translates to 31,840 minutes of video streamed or downloaded every second (Wow).

Indian consumer Internet video traffic will be 77% of consumer Internet traffic in 2021, up from 58% in 2016. Mobile video traffic will grow 11-fold from 2016 to 2021, a compound annual growth rate of 63%.
