Transgenders have been the most repressed gender and film-makers are now waking up to this population. Right on the heels of ‘Kashish’, India’s film festival about the LGBT community, which will also screen short films, comes the first Indian web-series that tells the story of transgenders. The web series is made by Trans Vision, a YouTube channel based out of Hyderabad.
The first episode tells the story of Sonia Shaikh, a transgender woman and a dancer whose life took a drastic turn after a jilted lover attacked her by throwing acid on her face two years ago. The eight episode web-series is titled ‘Alif-Sonia’.
Trans Vision is the brainchild of Rachana Mudraboyina, an activist who wishes to inform the people at large about the socio-cultural and cultural dynamics of the trans community.
