Sports documentaries are gaining traction on the streaming networks. Netflix recently brought out a behind the scenes series about Mumbai Indians. Today, Hotstar launched Roar of the Lion, a series that charts Chennai Superking’s journey in the 2018 IPL tournament. The series is a person to camera piece that has some of the most well-known names in cricket history talk about the journey that CSK went through.

What’s Wow: Mahendra Singh Dhoni is known as Captain Cool and is known for his calm and calculated antics on the field. However, in this documentary, audiences will be able to experience his emotional and quirky side.

This series is a deep dive into how CSK came up from nowhere in the 2018 IPL tournament and went on to win it. The conversations of Ayaz Memon, K. S. Shrikkant, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and so many others tell us exactly why these individuals have achieved what they have.

The fact that the documentary covers the entire journey, from the two-year ban to their return is commendable. The Captain Cool is also Captain Frank in his conversations, which gives this series a better tilt toward reality.  Also commendable is the editing, which takes the audience right through the thick of the action and tells them only those aspects that make the series all engaging and interesting.

What’s Blah: Nothing
