Amazon Prime is ready to launch their next web series, the stand-up comedy Comicstaan. The series has a unique concept – that of the stand-up comics being told to stop joking – and how they overcome this barrier. The series will have a barrage of comedians, like Kanan Gill, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Sumukhi Suresh and several others who will tell their joke using the popular dumb charades, where the person gets their point across with miming and not talking.
The first trailer of the series will launch on 26th June. There’s been some buzz about the concept fo the series and it has been received well by the audiences. It is interesting to see that Amazon Prime and stand up talents are trying something new for Indian audiences – it also reminds one of one of the segments of Whose Life Is It Anyway, where a group of stand up artists would play out an entire comic sequence in a mime fashion.
Amazon Prime has been at the forefront of creating local and unscripted content since a while now. It’s closest rival, Netflix, is also looking at creating local content – which generally means good news for the audience.
