Hansal Mehta is an extraordinary director who takes up extraordinary concepts. After Aligarh and Shahid, Hansal has been roped in to make a web series on the securities scam that rocked India in the 90s. the main accused was Harshad Mehta.
This was the first time that such a big scam was unearthed, and it quickly became a pop culture phenomenon in India. The web series is being made by Applause Entertainment and will be based on the book The Scam, written by Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu. According to reports, the web series could be multiple seasons and could therefore talk about several other scams that India faced. The first season, though, would only be about Harshad Mehta and the securities scam.
Very few will remember the exact nature of the scam now, but it was all about irregularities in securities transactions and fund management by banks and other financial institutions. This will be the first time that this scam will be covered in a web series. earlier, there was a movie, Gafla, that spoke about the securities scam. Unfortunately, that film did not make a lot of noise at the box office.
